Take a look at fake rain in Dubai created by cloud-seeding technology

July and August are the hottest months in Dubai and the rest of the United Arab Emirates, with temperatures in the Gulf country regularly reaching 120 degrees Fahrenheit with very little rain. But the UAE is trying to change that with cloud-seeding technology (to which they invested $15 million in 2017) that uses drones to "plant" rain "seeds" into cumulous clouds (see how the tech works in bottom video). — Read the rest

Fantastic emulation of classic Apple II program The Print Shop (1984)

In 1984, I used the hell out of The Print Shop on my Apple ][e. Published by Broderbund, it's a super-simple graphic design application to create greeting cards, signs, and banners. I'd use my Koala Pad to generate ridiculous banners that I'd then print out on a dot matrix printer (yay for tractor feed paper!) — Read the rest

I don't understand the 1985 paper, "Higher Algebraic K-Theory of Schemes and of Derived Categories [PDF]," by Robert Wayne Thomason and Thomas Trobaugh. But Thomason's introduction is fascinating. He says the paper was co-written by a simulacrum of his late friend Thomas Trobaugh who appeared in Thomason's dreams. — Read the rest
